With results in Scotland (more of which in a moment) and the rest of the UK now released, clearing is open at the University of Dundee. The university has course vacancies available depending on your fee status (ie the type of fees you will be paying at uni), with up to up to £5,000 of scholarships and guaranteed accommodation available to those that are eligible.

Now, onto Higher results, and the news that up to 125,000 Scottish students will have theirs overturned and upgraded. This is after the government was forced into a u-turn following uproar over the original grades, which had been downgraded by a computer algorithm. The outrage grew when it turned out the pass rate for pupils from the most deprived backgrounds was reduced by 15.2 percentage points, but only by 6.9 percentage points for the wealthiest pupils.

A similar picture is emerging in England, where 280,000 students have had their A level results downgraded. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said ministers must follow the lead of Scotland and allow teacher assessed marks to be accepted. Unsurprisingly, this has caused a lot of anxiety for students, especially those whose final grades were not as predicted. If you are going to uni at Dundee and have any uncertainty about your results or place, the best thing to do is contact a course administrator relevant to your subject for the latest advice from your specific School.

Meanwhile, the university has published another update for students on the measures they are taking to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, admitting that:

“Due to the impact of Covid-19 we may not be able to deliver the course as previously advertised; or if you are a returning student, what you experienced previously. For specific details on how your course is affected (if at all), your School will be in contact with you directly. If you have any specific queries, please contact your relevant School office.

”Dundee are still planning for an October return, with a mixture of online and in-person teaching that will be in place for at least the first term. Reassuringly, the university says that in the event of another lockdown, it has the capacity to continue teaching, learning and other support services through its online infrastructure, meaning there will be no break to your studies."
