As if this year’s exam results chaos didn’t leave us with enough to get our heads around, UCAS have also launched a new Clearing system. Here’s everything you need to know about what Clearing Plus is, how it works, and what it means for you.

What is Clearing Plus?

Clearing Plus is a new personalised system from UCAS which promises to make it easier for unplaced students to find their place in Clearing. For the first time ever, you can log into Track and see a list of courses you have been matched with, as well as using the search function, which will still give access to 30,000 course options. It’s basically a better version of Clearing, with universities pledging to take lower grades than usual if they have places available. And with the new ‘View Matches’, it makes it easier than ever to find course vacancies that might be interesting to you.

How is Clearing different this year?

It’s all about that magic button in Track: the one that says ‘View Matches’. Give that a click and you will be shown a list of courses you have been matched to based on your application. If you see a course on the list that you like the look of, you can click the ‘I’m Interested’ button. After that your details will be passed on to the uni or college and, if they still have places available, they will get in touch with you to discuss further. If you get an offer, all you need to do is add it a Clearing choice in Track so it can be confirmed.

Which unis can I go to through Clearing?

There are lots of very good universities you can go to through Clearing, including Russell Group universities. Some of the top unis on the service this year include the University of Dundee, King’s College London, University of Manchester, Newcastle University, University of Warwick and the University of Salford. But there are literally thousands of course options available and UCAS advises that you should be proactive in your search for a place - even though Clearing Plus makes it easier than ever, be sure to log into Track and browse other options as well as your course matches. If you’re still a bit unsure about how Clearing works, what’s different about Clearing Plus, and how it all affects you, UCAS have put together a great microsite you can visit for everything you need to know about Clearing in 2020. Good luck finding your place! Applying to the University of Salford of the University of Dundee via Clearing? We have rooms available for you to book right now.
